Marko Marcinko - Latin Jazz

MarcinkoMarko Marcinko is a drummer, percussionist, pianist, composer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist/vocalist

He is the artistic director for the Scranton Jazz Festival, The Pa Jazz Alliance, Jazz Camp Crescendo and The Director of Jazz Studies at Penn State University. His touring and recording credits include: Maynard Ferguson, Dave Liebman, The OrganiK Vibe Trio, Dave Samuels, Clark Terry, Phil Woods, Bob Dorough, Jon Faddis, Kurt Elling, Will Lee, Mike Stern, Paquito D’Rivera, John Legend, Juan Gabriel and Don Rickles.

The Marko Marcinko Latin Master class will consist of the comprehensive understanding of the 
Afro-Cuban clave, Brazilian clave, 6/8 Nanigo and the effect these world rhythms have had on jazz and contemporary music.

During their visit to the Al Cohn Memorial Jazz Collection
 at the Kemp Library at East Stroudsburg University, students will get a chance to explore the thousands of sound recordings, books, dvds, photos and more. Established in 1988, the jazz collection at ESU has been home to jazz of all eras, specifically contributions of local musicians such as Al Cohn, Phil Woods, Dave Liebman, Bob Dorough, and many others.

he creator of School House Rock, composer of the jazz standard Devil May Care and Miles Davis collaborator discuss his his life in Music.

WellDorough will speak of his varied musical life, with occasional examples, at the piano. He will also give the student some clues on jazz singing, phrasing, diction,and song presentation, again with personal demonstration. 
To entertain (like LouisArmstrong and/or Dizzy Gillespie), or NOT to entertain (like Miles Davis and/or John Coltrane), when performing jazz?
